Can't Ignore The Hype

Lana Del Rey is everywhere right now. If you live in any major metropolitan area, chances are you've seen her album cover, even if you haven't heard her yet.

But who hasn't heard her yet?

It's the type of hype that has critics, and struggling singer-songwriters alike, fuming.  And it would bother me too except, she's good.  She has a clear aesthetic, one I believe could fill a "bad girl" niche that's been left in pop music since the passing of Amy Winehouse.  And even if she isn't the powerhouse live performer that Amy was, she's a much stronger lyricist, pushing song form in a way I would describe as progressive.

With well-written, recorded and produced songs her album delivers exactly what it promises: "gangsta Nancy Sinatra."
